In recent years, microplastics have emerged as a key environmental and public health concern on the international level. These less-than-5mm-long plastic particles, created through the mechanical, chemical or UV-induced fragmentation of poorly biodegradable polymers, have been found to easily infiltrate soil and water where they can remain for hundreds or even thousands of years. Through ingestion by various species, microplastics can find their way up the food supply chain and into our plates. While the full impact of microplastics on human health is still being investigated, they have been proven to act as a carrier of environmental contaminants and pathogens, resulting in higher exposure to a variety of harmful chemicals. Our Eurofins Environment Testing experts across the world provide microplastic detection and quantification services across a variety of matrices to support environmental protection efforts. Recently, our laboratories in Hungary have extended their offering to food and cosmetics samples to help manufacturers meet existing and upcoming legal requirements. ?? What happens when you combine a sunny afternoon, team spirit, and 200 boxes of expertly grown and harvested potatoes? Our teams from the Eurofins Agro Testing network in Wageningen, the Netherlands, marked the start of summer with an unforgettable outdoor gathering. With 200 colleagues – from field service and laboratory to production and the office – coming together for a sunny and festive afternoon, it was an event to remember. Beyond the camaraderie and shared laughs, what set the event apart was a special surprise from our colleague and arable farmer, Theo den Engelsman. With the support of his wife, he prepared 200 boxes of freshly harvested ‘Frieslander’ potatoes – one for each colleague. ?? Eurofins Environment Testing and Eurofins Built Environment Testing teams in the US recently launched “Learning to Lead”, their newest management course designed specifically for first-time supervisors and group leaders. Complementing existing programmes “Foundations of Leadership”, which targets managers and directors who are interested in more senior roles, and “Building Leadership Excellence”, which supports Business Unit Managers and other senior leaders, this course contributes to the career development opportunities available to our colleagues. Over a six-day period, a record 171 participants toured the Eurofins Environment Testing and Eurofins Built Environment Testing laboratories in Tustin (CA), Houston (TX) and Lancaster (PA). They attended workshops, received and shared valuable insights, and forged lasting connections with one another.
